I have a 54 plate SRI t Irmscher edition, I bought it with a k&n induction kit fitted, fuel consumption is rediculously high and power isnt all that impresive either. I traded my DTM calibra for this and am feeling rather let down, any ideas? HAve I bought the worst SRI ever?

Lol coz it's got an Irmscher badge on the boot and every time i go to get parts its a headache, I went to get springs fitted and had to wait a week because the standard sri t springs would not fit. (Or so they said!) Anyways I was only trying to provide as much info as possible, I havent seen another of my car to see if they all have the Irmscher badge on the boot, I appologise if I was inaccurate. Please believe that I have no false ilusions of grandure and the way things are looking I'm probably going to trade it for a
2LT with performance to match fuel economy.

there is no such car mate. The only real ones are german so left hand drive and they never did a 2.0t only 3.2 sc. K&n are poor on modern ecotecs, they were fine on the old red tops. They suck in to much hot air, your better off getting just a panel filter in stock airbox or even a sealed kit like the piper vipor but i'd stick with the panel type.

How about we answer the question rather than canning the poor chap for the irmscher mistake! I would say you'd be better off removing the k and N and refitting the standard air box with performance panel filter. The 2.0T does respond too well to open induction kits - if you did want one you'd be better going for an inclosed one with proper cold air feed, its to do with the heat from the engine being sucked in through induction kit. I would say this would vastly improved perrformance and MPG.

If you read his post he actually mentions getting rid of the Irmscher 2.0T and getting a normal 2.0T because of poor running costs!!!! What, shall I just let the poor guy throw his money down the drain.....

Guys I'm sorry, I didnt mean to cause any arguments. I will post some pictures of the car and the badges asap, I wasnt kidding about getting parts for it either, I had one guy try to tell me that I shouldnt have the car as its meant to be a police car so he couldnt supply me bits :S. It has 19" snowflakes, spoiler, skirts etc all factory fitted. Is this thing some kind of lemon, could i ask vauxhall about it?
PS not taking any offense Im sure its frustrating having newbies on talking out of their backsides, dont know much about these things, which is why I'm here.
Many thanks for all posts.

Get some pics up and it'll help answer our questions mate - it's what we're here for...:D
Once we know what we're dealing with, we can point you in the right direction for parts and consumption etc...
Speaking of which, what IS your consumption at the moment, and what sort of driving are you doing...?

The last time it was in a garage it wasnt the dealership it was a local garage (should have known better i know!). Mpg best I can get is 24, thats doing 60 mph on cruise control, foot down (doesnt happen often unless i feel very rich) 7.8mpg. As I said it came with the stoopid induction ****** kit and no panel filter box at all :(

Nah, not at all mate - very few people have found this place THEN bought the car...:D
From the looks of it, it's just a standard SRi 2.0 Turbo with the snowflakes (very sought after) and the rear spoiler. You also get the twin exhausts because of the engine...:D
I don't know enough about them to say if the induction kit is the definite cause of the economy, but your best bet is to try a few things:
Tyre pressures
Service
stick some decent fuel in it
give it a really long run or two to make sure it's well worn, because if it's only done short journeys recently it won't be happy...
Check the fuel consumption over the tank my seeing how much it uses - fill her up to full, run to near empty, refill and compare fuel that you put back in versus miles travveled for a proper figure and not one off the computer...
If they all come back as fine, then it's possibly the induction kit throwing heaps more air into the engine than it needs and so the ECU throws more fuel at it. Lots of possibilities for poor fuel economy, but they're the easiest palces to start...

Thank you I will try these out, did a run down to edinbourgh the other week (thank god for overdrafts :))Would anyone have any suggestions as to the tire pressure i should be running on these 19's? Have heard various levels, Im not looking to race or anything, just wanna get to work and back without that pesky petrol tanker following me around ;). Once again thanks to you all, wish I had come here first!!!

Yep deffo standard 2.0 T if you bought it as an Irmscher edition then i would seriously be having words mate with the seller.
I think you maybe best trying scrap yards for another airbox and replace cone filter for panel one

Still a nice car though mate :thumb: The Stock airbox bottom is standard across the range (except VXR) so finding one will be easy, although there are variations on the lid. You MPG does look pretty poor, the 2.0T has similar MPG as the 2.2 but has better power so it a win situation that you have a 2.0T. The pressure in those 19's is up around the 38 psi area not the traditional 32 ish. My 2.2 vec is running about 27mpg at the moment and that's all City point and squirt driving so your car should be loads better, you'll also find in the winter months the MPG will drop and in the summer you'll get better figures. A simple fluid and filter service will also help with your consumption, but the biggest thing you need to change is the open cone filter you have, you will probably even find you get more power with the stock set up.

This might fit AIRBOX (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vectra-c-air-filter-box-airbags-lights-breaking-2004_W0QQitemZ380206305986QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item58860fd2c2)

I don't think it will mate, I don't think the pic is the actual one that's for sale. He says its from the green vec, if you look at his listing for the green vec its a 2.2 and the lid faces the other way around and the intake goes straight to the front to the TB, on the Turbo is goes towards the bulkhead, the one in the pic does look right but I just think its a generic pic :(

You don't need to refit the standard airbox if u dont want to. Like any Car with a cone filter, the induction sucks in warm air from the engine, as already mentioned. A simple fix to this and the way that it should have been done in the first place is to fit a shield between the engine and filter. Also run a cold air feed from the front to the filter. More cold air the better :)
The shields come in many dif shapes and sizes and cane be done in dif ways. Few pics as examples:

just a quick question. When looking at fuel consumption your not looking at instant consumption on the trip computer? I dont mean to sound funny but there are 2 fuel consumption figures on the colmputer - avg & inst. Its just that you said when you put your toe down you got 7.8 mpg? Might be worth checking.
kentish_bloke

in my experience, the instant mpg will be low when you plant your right foot. just to give an indication, i have driven a Peugeot 307 estate with a 2 litre HDI engine & ive had it down to 11 mpg when accelerating hard.
my advice would be the same as above, ditch the induction kit, fit the original air box, with the interior mod, fit the sri short intake (the one that doesnt go over the rad) & get yourself a k&n filter.
