Yes always polish before wax, the polish will take the wax off.

Lately I gave the Meguirs Spray Wax a go as the convenience factor was appealing - and that gave a lovely finish too! But always happy to try out different stuff. :)

Its not really, ive trimmed it down quite a bit and got rid of stuff I don’t use. Im sure rich3.2 has more than that by now, and im certain Bryan will have more. Ive got it down to a manageable level where I will use most of the stuff rather than just have it sat on the shelf

Hi Guys,

Andy you've probably seen my reply about #16 but just incase.........have you tried applying #16 with the Smartool?.........I did the other night and it makes a cracking job and is very easy and fast ;) .........I saw some colours coming through that hadn't seen before.......if for nothing else I'll certainly be using the Smartool to apply wax for sure

I take it was just the brushes in the Smartool then yeah?

Bryan

PS I have some Zymol coming......the kit for sale on DW Andy......so I'll let you how that goes ;)

No Andy it's a special deal via Clean & Shiny, there are 2 kits each has the following: -

SKSK2 Carbon, Concours and Destiny Sampler Kit

SKSK3 Titanium, Concours and Destiny Sampler Kit

This is what the kits look like apart from different waxes

It also includes small bottles of HD Cleanse, Clear shampoo, Microwipe, detail brush and a nice plastic case

And................I'm getting one of each  :D

And yes it's the one you apply by hand........literally :fear:

Well I used the clay for the first time ever last night, and all I can say is WOOOOOWWWW!!! Whenever I washed the car I always thought how clean and shiny it looked. The quick detailer was going brown with muck as I passed the clay over it. To say I am happy with the result is a massive understatement. money very well spent.

Gary, I have been toying with the idea to invest in some Megs clay but always put it off for some reason.
Is it easy to do and how long does it take.. :)

Andy
7th July 2006, 11:29
its very easy to do, providing you do it right, if you know what i mean. Whatever you do, dont just use the clay straight out of the packet or you'll put more scracthes in your car than you started with.

1) cut the clay bar in half, you dont need both bits.
2) Play with clay in your hands until its really soft like do. During the course of claying you need to keep it like this and dont let it go hard
3) use plenty of lube and spray the area to be clayed. (wash and dry the car first!)
4) using very very light pressure, rub the clay over the lube. It may be a bit jerky to start. Thats good. It means its sticking to the bad bits. After 3 or 4 light rubs, the clay with suddenly go smooth. Thats that bit done.
5) fold the clay over, get it soft again and repeat on a new bit until the whole car is done

done quickly (and possibly wrongly) it could take 30 mins. Done correctly, at least an hour, maybe 2 but you only do it every 3 or 4 months.

Cheers Andy, have invested in most of the Megs range "well over the counter stuff" and cant fault it, but its just that Ive heard a few ppl having probs with the clay... :)

Andy
7th July 2006, 11:40
most of the problems are due to people not warming it up properly and just using from the packet. Its too hard like that and rather than pick the bits up and sink them into the clay, its just grabs them, keeps them on the surface and scrapes them across your paint as you rub. All becasue the clay is too hard.

Also some people dont use enough lube and find the clay sticking the paintwork and leaving streaks.

Use plenty of lube and keep the clay dead soft and you wont have a problem :) megs clay is as good as any other so dont think your using an inferior product.

Big Davie
7th July 2006, 12:12
Do you have rub the clay so it drys the area you have "lubed" or leave it wet and start on another area......

Andy
7th July 2006, 12:20
no, just spary lube, rub the clay over the lubed paint area and wipe off/dry with a cloth.

Thanks Andy, looks like this Sat could see clay being added to my collection.. :)
