222 Standard Eh??
Could be dyno time??
What has anyone else got??
Phil, I know that the auto's not got a good rep.. But what do you have auto or manual??
Does it make much difference to the delivery??

i've a manual mate !!
you're saying the auto aint got a good rep ?? maual gearboxes are falling by the coach load !! but thats vx in general . not just GSI's ,
Have never driven an auto GSI , but the delivery of the manual is quite good ...... 40 in 1st .... 70 in second ....... cruise at 70mp/h at 2500 rpm 100mp/h is 3500 rpm (near as dam it ) red line 6800rpm , but that should be the same as the auto's

Phil,
By saying auto's haven't got a good rep i mean that the oil coolers are paper thin and seem to fail ,early resulting in milkshake for tranny fluid..
Still, 2 years warranty to go... :D

can you get bigger coolers for them?

I don't think so, It seems the bit that fails is the gearbox exchanger, not the radiator end. It uses the engine cooling water to cool the fluid.
VX just change the cooler and fluid.. Known fault on this box apparrently.
BTW, when Mrs Gsi and myself were out cruising the blacktop yesterday we paid attention to what the speedo/tacho were doing and 70mph with cruise was only 2000rpm... perhaps 5th in auto is a 'longer gear'?
The same applied for your higher speed figure... 3250rpm in top..This auto seems a very lazy beast..Until you hold it in any gear on the tiptronic, the she flys to the red line really eagerly...
And like you say.. These do it as :D standard :D
A little something is nagging in the back of my head thou that VX gave two different BHP outputs for the man and the auto??

I'm guessing that Vx held back on releasing the extra horses to keep within tolerances for the gearbox.

Which one??
caprimanuk has had his manual box 'changed', and I think Phil has had his done too... I know auto's are supposed to handle the power better, but I don't think i've got the same power as phil.
Only one way to find out, I suppose
GSI3.2 - you said that Vx give two different power outputs for the Manual or the Auto, so I'm assuming that the car with the least power is being held back due to gearbox tolerances.

Done me homework now,
I was wrong about the petrol's. They all make the same according to VX's brochures. ( not that they are a source of ultimate truth).
It's the V6 diesels that alter. The auto's torque output is cut back by 15% to 330nm. The poor quality manual box has to take 370nm!!
God, am I now happier I didn't buy the V6CTDi...
Poor ecomony is a small price to pay for gearbox reliability.... got a GSi? Buy shares in Iraq
Correct me if I'm wrong but if the Auto is being held back and the only difference is the gearbox, then surely Vx are holding back on the power to save the gearbox? This must mean that the manual is either stronger or more reliable?
Just my take on things.

Can't argue on stronger.. Hydraulic fluid and clutch plates are no match for steel on steel. They will take more abuse thou.
If you go to santa pod raceway and watch the drag cars which really give the gearbox's a kicking, They will be 95% slush box's.. The manuals don't take the shock loading of the starts very well.. catch the gears in your teeth style...
I can't comment on reliability either, all my last vec's have been auto's as i'm far too lazy to stir the pudding... It just seems that Caprimanuk and big phil are amongstthose, and others that I know from outside VEC-C that have had the box changed at a short life..
This seems at odd's with the old gearbox's reputaition.
