just bought a vectra 2.0 gls 96 and havent bought a manual yet little bit more technical than a mk2 golf arent they but i got it home the next day i started it it made a kind of exhaust blowing noise and it come from the round plastic thing behind the battery as far as i can make out its maybe a vacume of some sort but after a minuet of running it stops making the noise and is normal is this repairable and would it make a diffrence to performance and are they expensive to replace.

Hi mate.. :D

What you can hear is the air injection pump pushing air into the emmisions system..this is all perfectly normal and nothing to worry about..it cuts out after a few minutes when the emmisions are at a level that won't kill your catalyser..

ok mate.. still learning on the vectra side ive had 3 mk2 gti"s and vectras are a little more technical to fathom but getting there as reguards the injection pump my mate bought a vectra 1.8ls and he"s dont make that exhaust noise from the injection pump does that mean mine is knackerd or in need of a tune it does not smoke or tap its got 90,000 miles and is in pretty good nick i do know the oil is black and badly needs changing its next on the agenda but my air filter is clean. seeing as i cant help too much on the vectra side of things yet my field is computers if i can offer any help let me know

no its more like a blowing exhaust but less aggresive sounding, after around 30 seconds to a minuet it clunks then goes silent ......kinda like my brain when its worked to hard

noise like a hoover is the air induction pump located on the inner wing...

an exhaust noise like it's blowing that packs up after about 30 seconds is the EGR valve....located at the right hand side of the engine...
