Spilled a full container of diesel in my boot yesterday all 15 liters ended up in the spare wheel area, using a brand new container but the safety pin came out when i went around a coner and the top came off,got it all out, it took all day today.washed the carpet and striped out everything i could and also washed them.My question is will the smell go away,or are their any products out there that could help.Or do i have to replace all the carpet and other bits in the boot. Thanks in advance

I'm sure there are probably some citrus based products that will clean all the diesel out and leave you with a lovely smell..... someone will be along shortly with some names!

Hello
After my diesel spill this is what i had to do.
Strip out all the boot liners, remove the back seats and take out and bin the carpet in the back. The diesel had,as you can see from the picture, made its way down under the back passenger side carpet, you can see the different colour of the floor.I cleaned it all out as used the talc method and have been letting it dry out for the last 2 weeks, the smell of diesel has gone. i got all the replacement part yeaterday and have put them in my self ,about 4 hours work, Opel wanted 1000 euros labour sod that ,anyway just be so,so careful if you are carrying anything in the back of your cars.
All the best, Alan
