View Full Version : 3.0 CDTi lame

Since having our used signum for 2 months, we have noticed the turbo noise has changed to a more aesthmatic noise earlier in the rev range, before then becoming a high pitch whistle during acceleration, making the performance seem a little lame compared to when we first got the car, it also seems a little smokey at times and I feel there is something not 100% right. Now I know if I go to the dealer they are gonna fob me off (Network Q car) or they wont have experience of the 3.0 to know how it should be, is there something I can site as the problem to make them see my point of view?
The car has 22k on the clock and is a year old, we have had a pbox fitted for a month which whilst fitted made the car much more sprightly - but did leave huge plumes of black smoke in it's wake - box now removed whilst its being investigated.

I've heard from another owner that some early cars had dodgy air filter elements, which clogged up very quickly. The acid test is to get the garage to do an MOT emissions test, which it will fail on particulate emissions, if this is the problem.
A new element solves the problem.

air filter element = new air filter?
if thats the case - I was considering a K&N replacement anyway.
Also the dealer SHOULD have serviced the car prior to us taking it, but the service indicator wasnt reset, and I'm starting to think they havnt changed the oil or filters either.

you could be right. i changed my air filter to a k+n on my 2.2 and the airbox was full of stuff. i wonder if its because of the air intake scoop. I'm going to try and get into the routine of cleaning my airbox out every 3 or 4 months.
hope you get the problem solved mate

Kitchpoo, as a quick test, remove the air filter element replace the air box lid and take it for a run. If the performance is improved change the element.

i know that there is upgrade on the 3.0cdti software, i had a problem with engine light so with no hesitation they remapped the ECU with the new software, but my 3.0cdti was brand new on 10 march on 05. they said upgrade has boosted the turbo and alter the pressure on the jets so it should and was alot better.UNTIL i had the tunit box fitted :D
so kitchpoo get the car in and ask about the new upgrade on software

Was yours the problem where the engine light comes on, and it refuses to start, then fires up if you leave it 5 minutes?

its going in to the dealer tomorrow - will see if I can sound them out on the upgraded software, and maybe ask them to double check the service was actually done (as it wasnt done by that dealer)

Mine was exactly as yours is.No idea why my just bought,Network Q'd and serviced V6 CDTI had a blocked air filter.Just because the diagnostics couldn't pick it up my dealer spent a week narrowing it down to this.It also had the management update etc. done at the same time and it does drive a lot better.Still smokes a lot though. How is yours now..?..

After a quick underbonnet fiddle - the airbox was filthy - fag ends, debris and a blocked filter - this appears to be the cuplrit.
Awaiting a K&N replacement
