i got a 2.0gls n reg vectra, ever since i got it when i accelarate it lumps slightly it ticks over and starts fine the lumpy bit seems to be worse when its hot.. a friend has a 1.8 ls and it seems to be a bit faster than mine ive had mine checked on a fault diagnosis machine and the cambelt and the airflow meter and all came up clear with no probs i put a new air filter and fuel filter still no change cant find any vacume leaks either ive tried injector cleaner still no change the only thing maybe i can put it down to is the plugs its got ngk"s fitted but they were new when i got the car a couple of months ago .. any ideas would be really appreciated maybe someones had the same trouble as me be glad for any input ...thanks..... vinny :)

Lambda sensor
The one in the exhaust, cant say it will def be it doing it, but I had a cavalier with the same issue and the best i could get from anyone was that, sold the car like it in the end, didn't fancy an expensive hunt the fault game, see if you can get one from a scrapper, if not a gen one might be chips cheap by now.

The lambda sensor is usually on the exhaust by the engine on the down pipe...

Much as Ed says, if you get under the car the sensor will be just forward of the cat, it just looks like a fitting with a two wire cap on, they are hard to get out without breaking so beware and prepared, you can get non vx ones cheaper, not sure how good they are though.
Testing it is not really an option, tech 2 will say there's nothing wrong with it, but as you can appreciate all that exhaust gas building up on it will reduce it's ability to send the right signal back to the ECU.

there is a special tool for it but a 14mm spanner works just as well!

Vinny, it doesn't always show up on the machine, gonna have to bite the bullet and go for it, try not to damage the new one, and if it's not that you should be able to clean the probe off and return it.

it turned out to be the idle control cost me £100.00 quid but its cured it apparently its a common fault. the crappy thing is i just whent to london yesterday and the friggin ecu packed up seriously losing interest in vauxhall i should have stuck with volkswagon i had three years trouble free motoring with them

yes i get that but you just got to weigh it up... boring or money in ya pocket dont get me wrong vectras are a real nice lookin smoth car with plenty of luxuries but as far as reliability goes my one is ****.. i want my mk2 golf gti back it was faster than the 2.0 veccy anyway i dont know wether to get engine management done or just scrap it and cut my losses i paid £850 a month ago then £120 for the idle control witch is apparently a common fault ..two tires cheapest i could get for the sri wheels was £120 a pair now the engine management that is gonna cost £600 plus vat and labour all i can say is all modern cars are so over engineerd its stupid you need a fault diagnosis machine with nearly everything i wish i never laid eyes on it
