Should Ferrari not have been disqualified today instead of a "small" fine? The only way to stamp out blatant cheating like this is to hit them hard, and that's on the points table, not the pocket. I know it wouldn't be fair towards the drivers as they are only following orders but still they'd only need to be disqualified once for it never to happen again. Mind you we all know how bias the FIA are towards Ferrari.................

I disgaree, what Ferrari did was in the interest and greater good for the season and sport
Any such disagreement or blatant rule breaking would have to be argued in court
Clearly no such case as Alonso was clearly faster than Massa, just the difference was so small and could not get past
This is one of the issues when you have two cars with almost identical specification
Perhaps for next season they should declare the points for the WHOLE race nul and void, that would be more fair!

Basically Ferrari ordered Massa to pull over and let cry baby Alonso past so he could take the win and help his championship push.

The greater good? Hahaaaa, your joking. If he's not got the talent to get past fairly that's his problem, not seen this issue with Red Bull have we? Vittel tried to take out Webber a few weeks ago and at least he came off worst.
So you think the rest of the grid should be allowed to "Cheat" so they can all match each other for performance?

Agree as usual Ferrari get away with 100k fine with them spending 200million this is like just
Fitting a new front wing.
Spanish crybaby cannot overtake like Hamilton or Button .
They should lose points as well.

Equally, I would be reporting Red Bull for their "flexing" front wing
It could CLEARLY be seen moving throughout the race
As the Red Bull exited out of a corner and accelerated the wing could be seen lowering as more air passed over it...

Is that like active areodynamics? Are they outwith the rule book, or is it like the diffusser was last season, in that it was an interpretation of the rule?

The front wing MUST be rigid
This was clearly visible on a previous McLaren one, deemed to be illegal
Obvously with increased airflow the ends of the front wing will flex a small amount
However with careful design this can increase or decrease the downforce...
Take a look at the footage, as the Red Bull exits from turn 6
Compare the edge of the front wing against the air intake on the brake ducts
The top of the front wing starts off level
However as the speed increases the front wing appears to bend, the outer edges "drop" such that they are no longer level with the top of the brake duct

Should make team orders legal, as DC said, teams give orders all the time, just not as blatant and poor as today. I mean Rob Smedly after the race, EJ was right he deserved an Oscar.

In any sport you have to play by the rule book. The RB wing does flex, but according to FIA tests done so far it flexes within tolerances, clearly they got the maths work done better than the rest. So they can only play to the rules, and they got it spot on. Whether the goal posts get moved is another matter. Note that no formal complaint has been made by any team.
Team orders on a race track are banned end off. What the reds did was clearly out of order. Without digging out the rule book which is freely available to Joe public they have obviously found a small loop hole, this I would imagine will be closed quick smart.
Forget the moral side of things, rules are in the most case in black and white and its the teams job of using the rules to there best interest, some do it better than others..............

This is a mockery.
The two people I really feel bad for are Massa and Smedley. Smedley apologising after Alonso passed him then Massa's reaction at the press interview after the race?!
Ferrari should have their constructors points deducted for the race but let the drivers keep theirs. If 100k is all they are going to get fined then it will just open the gates for all the other teams to do the same. 100k in F1 terms is probably just about what it costs in fuel for one race!
The bottom line here is there was a team order and it was put to Massa in a way in which they thought they could hide it. If I was Massa, I would have said 'If he is faster, then he will have to pass me fair and square'

Yeah you can tell both of them hated what happened, but they can't come out and say it. Too loyal to the team.
Line from the film Hot Fuzz sums it up "the greater good".

Blatant team order, blatant rule break - should be a ban atleast.
Side note, anyone else sick of EJ on the programming/forum? Cringed when he was on the grid walk with MB a few races back, glad they put a stop to that ricky tick.

Typical reaction by that whinging Spaniard, cry cry cry.A more talented driver should have been able to overtake, not request team orders. He is like a big baby, constantly crying after /during every race.Unsurprised by the fine only for the team purely because it was a Ferrari, imagine if it had been a McLaren the punishment would have been more severe.Still all I can hope for is that the Spanish cry baby and the Australian whinger Wobbler take each other out next race :)

Alonso might be a 2 time champ, but he will always be the constant chump in my eyes. He has a stunning drive now and again where (IMO) Hamilton, Vettel, Webber, Kubica to name a few are consistent within the boundaries of their cars.
EJ used to annoy me but I just ignore it now. He is there as a former team principal (were Jordan ever THAT good?!) and he seems to think he is bezzy chums with everyone! DC is a legend!

I think Ferrari should have had points deucted as well as a fine. How can it be good for the sport, it takes away the whole spirit of racing. If Alonso could'nt get past with the equipment given to him, tough luck. We all know he's prone to throwing his toys out of the pram when he dont get his own way, and yes the FIA do seem to favour Ferrari. And all this threat of going to court is crap, if you cant race within the confines of the sport, GET OUT of it.

Lets face it the "Red" team breached regulations otherwise they would not have got the 100K fine,I do not support them but would have liked to have seen Massa win following his accident last year, cannot deny he put in some good lap times,
Alonso boo hoo bring your kleenex to the next race.!!

They said it "was massa's decision to let alonso pass" -- if it was massa'a decision then there's no problem because that isn't team orders.
Whether one believes that statement is a different matter though.:gossip:
i don't know how they'll hope to prove one way or they other, short of monitoring all radio communication.

This is standard practice these days, after the Schuy/Barachello incident in Austria a few years back.

ah yes, quite right forgot about that.
still, they could have told massa before the race what to do - what next, telephone bugging
they'll never stop it.

All the radio comunications are recorded,so Charlie Whiting and his team can go back to it when somthing like this happens, remember the hamilton incident.Check out what Rob Smedley said to Massa over the radio, and indeed when asked about after the race.

The FIA deemed that they broke the rules, hence the fine. But only a fine. Anything to do with the FIA president being former Ferrari Team Principal Jean Todt? Negotiated punishment to try and save face if you ask me!

I used to think the same with EJ, but now I find him quite refreshing as he speaks his mind, not bothered about upsetting the corporate applecart, unlike DC, notice he never says anything bad about Red bull or Merc ? could it have something to do with him being paid by them ? he is not unbiased & therefore should not be in front of the camera's!

I'd like to see the cheating Spaniard and "the red team" loose the points gained in yesterdays race and disqualified for the rest of the year, cheating is cheating and if anyone else had cheated you'd have had that Spanish numpty shouting for a stewards enquiry and they'd have been dealt with by now and disqualified loosing the points from the race..
The guy is horrible, and there's not a sporting bone in alonso's body, and thats been proven time and time again where he gob's off because he's not got his own way, If there's any justice / dignity left in F1 they'd ban him for life for being unsporting and a cheat!! :nutkick:

I have no doubt Ferrari will get away with it Jean Todt’s bound to put a good word in for them.
Look what happened to Fabio Briatore & Pat Simmons. Ok this was not an accident however it was from where I was sitting a ‘team order’.
I think it stinks but it gave everyone something to talk about besides a ‘fantastic tyre change’
