I have taken just Mr Griffin off the rear and I too think it makes the back end look much better.
its very easy to remove as its only stuck on -I used a plastic credit card and a hair dryer, although there was a mark underneath the badge but you can't really see it unless you are very close. :)

It looks OK when the griffin is removed, but in my opinion, if you remove the badges on the chrome strip you need to replace them with something. (i.e. Irmscher or even the upcoming Vectra-C.com stickers)
Just my opinion mate, I'll vote for 'Remove Griffin Badge'

I put on a holden badge in it`s place, some have opel. i am not keen on the griffin .. By paint do you mean the silver strip, i thought about that, then putting the badges back on. I replaced the vectra with steinmetz as well ....

So, is there a general consensus on the best way of removing Mr Griffin without damage? I'd really like to do this, but am scared about ruining the paint!

I removed mine just the other week, and to my horror it did leave a mark.
But in a previous job in a paintshop / valet centre i remedied it very quickly with the old wet and dry and a quick buff with G6.
Can even see a trace now.
Looks alot better!!! deffo recommended

I'd say either debadge everything so it looks clutter free,
or debadge everything but leave the griffin on or replace with holden/opel

I think if you modd the car then de-badging is best, if like me however left standard then I think the badges should stay, I cant justify what you boys spend on yours because mines a working tool, I have put the flaps on cos i liked the improvement in looks, the only other things i would like are the chrome handles and mirrors, given mines a Design I think thats as far as needs to go, so to compliment the car rather than change it, if I had a SRi/GSi and it was only for me to get about in and i had the dough, I would bling it as far as blinging could go, some of the cars I've seen here look awesome with the wheels and kits on them.

I done mine last week, use a credit card or similar to start it off, slide it under the badge to loosen and then just pull off once you worked your way around.
Pick of any glue left behind with your fingers, and whatever is left use a Bug and Tar remover to get rid of the remaining bits of glue.
This is the second one i've done and it didn't leave any marks.

I've done the opposite - I've removed the big ugly horrible griffin, leaves the tailgate nice and smooth. Still considering removing the 'Vectra' badge, but it balances the car quite nicely against the 1.9 CDTi which I want to keep - for the same reasons the others said :D

I think the credit card bit was to remove the actual badge and not the sticky stuff left behind.... Not sure how you'd get that of with label remover ;)

by killing the adhesion betwix the car and badge - it will allow the removal of said mentioned badge.......thus providing a debadged rear.

de-badged my siggy today, the elegance badges on the door,s came off easy
but had a real hassle with the griffin on my tail gate,
dont know what it was stuck on with but it took forever to get the glue of the car when it was finally all off it looked great in normal daylight so i took some pics
viewing them on the pc revealed a ghosting of the griffin in a lighter tone ,
q1 has anyone else come across this ,
q2 has anyone found a cure
i thought of t-cutting but i do not want to ruin it
any help or advise greatly received

I reckon mine was such a mission because its 2003... so maybe becuase its been on for 5 years it took more effort.
Its left a small mark that looks like a cloud, totally unfeelable - but noticeable close up - has ****ed me off and am tempted to get the boot sprayed!

Might be worth trying a colour restorer first

hot water to soften the glue...then peel the badge of leaving the foam behind...
soften the glue with Autoglym tar remover and peel it off...then cut back and polish the paintwork up...
frustratingly slow but well worth it in the end..:D

did you use along with a credit card or did you use something else to scrape the residue off ?

Only use a card to work the badges off. If you then use the card to remove the residual foam/sticky stuff off then you will scratch the paint.

you need to get those nasty black trims matched to your body ..makes a big difference
I removed vx badge and 2.2 from rear but looked lop sided so replaced it.
Did'nt like with all removed.
Tried dark transfer for high level brake light, but was'nt a great fit so used it for door cill's.
What do you think?

Did mine at the weekend when I got it.... ( about 2hrs after lol ).
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/ccsnet/CarPC%20Photos/v5/VecC/CIMG2516.jpg
With the back in the garage as it was a tad windy I maxed out the other halfs hair dryer and pre heated it for a few mins.
Then I pre heated the badge area for about a min and got the company credit card ( the old one :) ) and slowly slid it under while heating up the point where it was.
Cleaned the area off as much as poss unsing just my fingure then finished off using one of my magic cloths and finally polished with my normal stuff.... took about 15 mins as I'm fussy.

when i de-badge mine im thinking about removing all badges and putting the vectra badge on the right of the chrome strip and a VXR badge on the left, would this be a bit cheesy puttin a VXR badge on an LS though? baring in mind im going to try and replicate a VXR back end.
Cheers

I like to see people playing around with badging and trying different stuff. I thought about putting vectra where the Griffin used to be.
The VXR badge though, I wouldnt bother if it was me because it isnt a VXR...but if you want to do it dont let what anyone says stop you.
Yeah its cool to play with badges but I really wouldn't put a VXR badge on anything but a VXR.. but thats just me. If you want to do it, go for it !
agreed, it's a bit teenage chavy boy racer imo...

So, is there a general consensus on the best way of removing Mr Griffin without damage? I'd really like to do this, but am scared about ruining the paint!
A common way to debadge a C without any damage here in Holland is to use this procedure:
1. Use a piece of heavy duty fishing wire and cut between the badge and the paintwork. Use an up and down sawing motion. You will mostly cut through the foam layer that's right behind the badge. This is done in about 2 minutes.
2. Peel off (fingers and nails) any remaining foam bits that still remain on the paintwork. Heat it a bit with a hair dryer to soften the glue if necessary.
3. Use some sticker glue solvent to remove all the remaining glue on the paintwork. After this, you will probably still see the outline of the badge.
4. Genlty wash the paintwork with some car shampoo and water to prepare for polishing.
5. Firmly polish the paintwork, starting with the location of the badge and working your way out to do the entire section. Remove all excess polish and wash again, then dry.
6. If you can still see the outline of the badge, keep repeating the polishing step a limited number of times.
7. Wash, dry and wax the entire section.
No damage whatsoever. Any colour differences between the general paintwork and the badge location will fade over time. Usually there's no difference in colour. This procedure all in all takes about 15 minutes.
Good luck!
Hans
