VAUXHALL VXRS THE VECTRA

It's a bit quicker than the current quickest

More power, bit quickerVauxhall is sprinkling VXR dust over the Vectra, the new version to be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 12 September. Vauxhall’s calling it "the most powerful car in the class".

The new model has a top speed of 161mph from an all-new 2.8-litre V6 turbo producing 250+bhp and 236lb-ft of torque. With variable valve timing and a twin-scroll turbocharger, the V6 takes the car from zero to 60mph in 6.6 seconds through a six-speed manual 'box. This makes it a bit quicker than the current quickest of the range, the 3.2i Elite which is powered to 60mph in 7.2 seconds by a 211bhp V6.

Underneath the car is a heavily revised version of the existing Vectra's chassis using electronic damping control to minimise body roll via two processing modules while maintaining comfort. The brakes are the largest fitted to any production Vauxhall, 345mm discs at the front, 292mm at the rear.

The front features a deeper, VXR-badged front bumper and, at the rear, a rear spoiler, a pair of trapezoidal tailpipes and lowered bumper. It rides on 18-inch alloys with 19-inch rims an option.

Vauxhall reckoned it will sell for "well under £25,000".

hmmmmmmm Me want!!!

Although I can't imagine why they have kept as FWD as they can't put much more power than 250bhp through the front wheels to keep some sort of traction.

I think they should have put a V8 in and made it RWD, could have been a proper VXR then!

Maybe off the line to 60, but apparently the in gear acceleration times are quicker than the current range.

So its the gearing Vx have changed then? When you look at the power and torque - nothings changed so something else has changed to effect the acceleration. I know a lot of people have said maybe its to do with the Euro 4 emissions - but surly if a car still has the same power/torque as before - it shouldnt be slower?
Maybe it is the gearing then - but to lose a 1 sec off the 0-60 is quite a bit.

I see what you are saying about in gear times are better - but (i refer to one of your previous posts) lose 1 sec 0-60 to gain 0.5 sec mid range - we are still losing out somewhere!!!

Any chance you could find out from your friends "in the know" Matt?!!!!!!!:o

I'll what I can find out. But to be honest, until the full 2006 brochure comes out, I would take too much notice of the 'taster' brochure.

The New Zafira 'Taster' Brochure stated a 0-60 time of 9 seconds or so for the 2.0 Turbo. Now the full brochure is out it is down to 8.4 seconds.

I have e-mailed the VXR brand manager who I know to see if he can help.

Many thanks Matt. I will probably get another Vectra in the future - so this is why I am interested.
Cheers. Andy.
