Hi all,
does anybody know how to re-set the service light ?

On previous Vx's you could do this with a combination of holding down (I think) the trip reset button and turning on the ignition - or something along those lines.
I don't think you can do this on the C/Signum this way - only via Tech 2 (I think). I'm sure someone will be along to give a more confident reply!!

You can reset the service interval countdown by pressing and holding the mileage trip, turning on the ignition (the dash lights come) and continue holding for about 30 seconds. the mileage counter will reset to 21,000 miles.

Here's the exact VX procedure from their manual...
Resetting the flexible service interval (ECOService Flex) with TECH 2
The display for the flexible service interval (time and kilometres) can be reset via the instrument assembly. The engine control unit communicates with the instrument assembly.
Manual resetting
Ignition OFF. The tachometer display must indicate the trip odometer reading.
Press and hold down reset button (trip odometer button)
Switch ignition ON and wait until the service interval display changes and keep the reset button held down for at least 3 seconds.
After 3 seconds, the tachometer display indicates the symbol with the maximum mileage, 34.000 km for petrol engine or 50.000 km for diesel engine.
The time counter in the instrument assembly is set to 24 months. The engine control unit receives a signal via the CAN bus and the "oil condition" is set to 100 %. The engine control unit and the instrument assembly are now reset.

The only snag with this is that it does not reset the oil life indicator which can trip the service light. I see you have a 2003 car, do you need to reset it because of a service or does it keep coming on, some 2003 cars hav a problem with the instrument cluster, I had mine replaced under warranty because the service light kept coming on ??

Yes it does. Well it did on mine when i reset it 10,000 miles ago. It has not come back on and the trip distance is now 11,000 miles.
Others could be different, but i would not have thought so.

It resets the mileage, I know as I have done it many times, what I said is it does not reset the oil life indicator, which means it can be tripped again before the mileage is up, as the service indicator is not controlled by mileage alone, it is driving style as well, and oil quality . Resetting via the dash board resets certain parameters but is not fool proof, as I found out .

Hi,
Thanks for the info.
I service my own Vectra that's why I ended up resetting the light myself the system is all working OK.
Last time was last Feb i've covered about 9000 miles since then and the indicator is showing 11000 'til next service. I guess you're saying that I could get a service reminder come up based on oil life?
The VX manual does clearly say that the procedure i've described also resets oil condition to 100% so I sort of disagree on that point, but I could be wrong. Anyway time will tell I guess.

I agree with Angel Chops ... most of the Vx dealers just do the manual reset rather than a Tech2 reset, I was under the impression that the manual operation reset the oil life to 100%

Maybe it does, I am just going on what I was told by VX customer care when I was having all my service light issues. They said that the new european directive states that the service light must be resetable by a manual means other than there own generic computer thingummy. They said that resetting via the dashboard was different than via Tech 2 and that the oil quality was not reset so it could trigger the service light again and the only way to reset the oil service indicator was either by tech 2 or by changing the oil, thus resetting the level ? They could have just been saying that though. They also said that tech 2 would show a fault each time you do it ?? I got mine sorted by a new cluster so that was the end of it for me. I reset my service light 20 + times before they eventually fixed it though !!!

If it does not reset the oil life indicator (which the mileage thing is anyway) then I have done 30,000 mils without the ECM knowing to reset to 100%.
From this evidence and other peoples experience, and by the fact that Bainy had his dash replaced, I would say it does indeed reset to 100% oil life.
To be honest, even if the ECM logs a code every time the manual reset is done ( which I doubt to be honest) why should I really care? I can't see any detriment to either running / operating or resale value or reduced service interval.
I don't go to VX anyway, unless it's for warranty work.

I did mine, the sup dealer hadn't done it, before it was saying I needed service in 5k time, after it shows 31k, car was on 17k at the time, gonna do a full service myself soon and will reset again.
I'm not sure if the oil is monitored or it just throws up a default number to indicate though.

according to my dealer yesterday, the way to set it manually is as per THIS (http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?p=111453#post111453) thread. However, I have not tried it so I don't know.
