An example of what Optimum Car Wax (OCW) can do for light colours.

I thought I'd just post a few pics to show you the results of using OCW on a light coloured car. We all know that its very difficult to get good depth and deep reflection on light coloured paint surfaces, silver is especially challenging.

I've been using OCW since my Leon Cupra (silver) days and I've yet to find anything that can compare. I've tried Meguiars Gold Class and NXT Tech wax, Zymol, Auto Glym, Simoniz and even P21S pure carnuaba wax. P21S is the best of these bunch and gives a cracking finish but unfortunately its nowhere near as durable as OCW. OCW comes as a spray. It says on the bottle to just spray on and wipe off but I think a better technique is to spray the surface then spread the wax out with a microfibre cloth. Leave it for say 1 minute then rub over the surface with a clean microfibre cloth.

This is my second application of OCW on the Vec. You can layer it straight away but in my experience it tends to work better if you wait until you've washed the car and then put another layer on. You can build up in stages this way and the reflections get deeper and deeper.

The pic below is just one layer over the top of Carlack-68. Carlack-68 is an acryllic sealant, very similar to Klasse All in One. Essential stuff for paint protection with the winter coming up.

You can see the reflections starting to come up.

These next pictures are after 2 coats, taken today. Even with the poor light you can see the reflections and depth of shine are getting better. The bottom of the doors is a good example of this.

If you've got a light coloured car, chuck the Megs away and at least try some of this stuff. It takes about 20 minutes to do the whole car and I think the results are very good.

Looks shiney to me. My car is star silver and I have been useing PS21S and I am very pleased with it, but I have ordered some Colinite 467, I will put a thread to say what I thought of it when it arrives and I go over my car with it..

Thanks Ed. The P21S is undoubtedly great stuff. I've always felt it works best on darker cars though and its durability isn't all it could be.

The Collinite 467 is fantastic stuff and supposed to last for a whole year :eek:

I've never tried it but I've heard some very good things about it.

Just to chip in.....another advantage of OCW is that it can be used to protect plastic trim aswell.....it doesn't stain ;)

They say it lasts for ages although I have never had it on long enough to find out but it is good although I'll be going down the Collinite 476 or Zymol route for the winter with top ups of......for Collinite Chemical Guys Extreme Spray Wax or if I decide to go Zymol just a top up with Zymol Field Glaze ;)

Although for the cost you can't beat Collinite for the winter months it does last for ages and will easily see you through to the spring without too much maintenance........I would always suggest topping up or even giving another full coat of Collinite or which ever wax you use......but that's just me eh :cool:

Optimum also do "No Rinse Wash & Shine".......this doubles as a shampoo, a Conditioner, a Quick detailer and a Clay Lube.........it's really good value, I bought 2 as you do eh :D

Had some better light on account of the sunshine today. The car has now had 4 coats of OCW since I picked it up. Its getting a lot better now:

some questions, but a bit of background first.

I have a porky 911 Artic Silver which I had prof Zymoled ... looked ok , but this was a year ago and has not been touched since.

I also have a Arden Blue VXR.

I just clayed with Meguiars both the bonnet and front bumper only. Also used Paint Cleaner.

The Bonnet I waxed with a zymol Blue whuch is not the tub stuff.

The Font Bumper I used NXT Generation Spray wax.

Out of the two the bumper feels better, but for both a bucket of clear water just flows off rapid .. no beading, just right off.

I was thinking of going the Zymol or Swissol expensive route with a tub of the best wax .. £60-£100.

Now reading what you say ..... well I am bit amazed .. are the other just hype ?

Andy, the megs stuff you put on the bumper will initially give you the same water repelling qualities of the zymol but probably won't last as long.

On Arden Blue I'd go for something like Vanilla Moose handglaze or even one of the Blackfire products. TBH I think the competition have caught up with and even gone well ahead of the likes of Zymol and Swissol.

Blackfire, Menzerna and Jeffs Werkstatt are all superior products and much cheaper than the likes of Swissol.

Can you buy OCW in the shops anywhere?

I've never seen it in the shops mate. Its imported from America by certain online detailing product suppliers.
