Hi People. havnt been on for a while. Just got car back from repair. nothing major just needed new rear bumper but the probs have started since i got the car back from the Vaux bodywork repair garage. Horn continuaaly goes off and now the vaux garage tell me i need a whole new steering wheel because of a problem with a couple of connections on the steering wheel. got a alarm dianostic done at the same time just to make sure the alarm wasnt setting the horn off and now vaux are telling me theres problems with the alarm system which is going to take more than £400 to fix. total for steering wheel and alarm takes it to well over £600. Sorry to rattle on people but has anyone out there had the same probs. Cars a 2.2 dti sxi.

has no-one got a spare 6 button steering wheel they could sell you???
most of the cost will prob be the supply of a new steering wheel..

if some one out there has one. has anyone had a steering wheel taken apart or is it just typical for vaux to make something that you cant take apart to fix all for the sake of a couple of contacts on the wheel.

Mackie, Andy has a spare wheel with buttons (as the "good Vicar" sorted andy out with a different one--pioneer)...
As for your alarm, it could be tilt sensors or even the rear security wire that goes accross the rear screen,,,,tell VX it was ALL ok b4 it went in and the faults have only happened since leaving their bodyshop...
Hows the job going mate??

Hi Micky. good to here from you mate. Might have to take it back. i still think there trying to stitch me over. Didnt know ther was a prob with the alarm system until i put it into the garage. Will have to get it back to them. have you any more info about the tilt system, i think i heard you mention it once at work. Vaux told me that the contacts on the steering wheel was a common problem, but if i can get a price from andy i will be able to honk whilst driving by the ladies. :D Its a 3 spoke lads.

pouge.. how many spokes is your current steering wheel??
If the alarm hasn't presented a fault until now i'd be tempted to leave it alone for now and try a wheel swap if yours and Andy's are the same..
either that or see if your contacts will clean up?? ;)

Yeah i locked BEV in the car last week and the alarm seemed to work ok when she tried to get out, so i know the sensors are ok, although Vaux say on the diagnostic the main unit is faulty costing over £400. Thanks for the info Micky, will have a word with Miles. If they can clean the contacts it woud be a lot better. Will have to keep in touch about the next meet. Jobs going well mate, lot more enjoyable and i dont have to work Sundays.
