View Full Version : Maptun tuning - Video of a Z20NET with 418bhp.

Many of you will now that i decided to go the Maptun way with regards to tuning my Z20NET engine.... Saab use the same block in their 9-3 B207

Of course there are many doubters but my talking with them to date has only increased my belief that they knew what they were talking about... despite my not acheving my expected bhp figures so far I do not doubt them, i know my engine has some boost leaks amongst other things and its up to me to find these issues unless i want to pay big money to have somebody else find and sort them; but lets remember only a person that is truly familiar with your engine will know what it is wrong. Then we have Maptun, this is their party piece, they know more about the B207 / Z20NET engine than any other tuner will dream of...

Neo Brothers are the UK Maptun agents and they have treated me very well, all levels of my enquiries have been catered for and information has not been lacking in detail, something i am a pitha about.. So for those who have been closely following my progress I give the latest video of a 2.0T engine in the Neo Brothers race car being tuned at the Maptun Facilities in Sweden.

Check out these facilities and be in no doubt that you will be in good hands.

You gotta love this vid

Your going on about a race car, what is your point ?

How much did that race car cost ?

They would have upgraded most of all the parts on the car compared to a road legal car :clap2:

I can see alot of people upgrading and tuning with maptune now you've posted this link :-)

There agent in the uk does not even have a rolling road

Sorry mate, totally pointless thread and will only go one way ;)

When you spend the money to get your car to 418bhp come back and bump this thread, let's make it easier 300bhp.

I think the point is, what the engine can be capable of , not look what I can do with £200k, even if Nige gets 100BHP less than that he is on the a big winner over a stock car ;)

Nige, I see a where you are going wrong mate, you missed off the dustbin sized air filter , LOL,,,, look at the size of that

I like the idea of this as i do of all the engines being taken to the extremes, it was not so long ago that the top bhp for these much lower or were you not aware of that... So this is a big jump.. I know what they have done to the car and I have seen the car.. Its unrealistic for any of us to take our daily drivers to the level unless we have serious pots of cash and no spine to handle the potholes.. Nobody seems to make nice vids of vectra/signums getting tuned and make a show it, its big shame.. so its nice to see the engine that we share with Saab really being put to work.. There are loads of astra and corsa vids and loads of support but barely any for this in comparison.. If i had the cash I would like to make a mental track day car like that and so would many of us, its hardly unrealistic its just highly impractical... It just needs to be appreciated for what it is, a seriously powerful and quick 4 cylinder engine out of a GM family car.. hell I wish i had the knowledge to do such things with cars, i wish i had the money too... maybe i could start one and hide it in the neighbours garage, no chance... cars are depreciating assets and there is finite limit of when to call it quits on the spending for tuning etc.. for most of is that threshold is quite low... Some of you have track cars and i envy the guy who has a wife that and bank balance that permits that... for now i have to drool over the new found upper limits of my engine albeit in a highly tuned guise...

Simply proves that the 2.0T engine really is a practical alternative to a V6 whether you tune it or not, and lives up to all the claims made for it.

A man with no eyes can clearly see that Saab knew exactly what they were doing, and had been doing for 20 years.

There is a 1000bhp 2ltr 9-3 now thats impressive

Take a look at the Nordic saab website

To be fair, the Yanks have been tuning this block for years, and there getting 700bhp street legal, using only off the shelf GM parts. The 2.8 really has a lot of catching up to do, and I mean alot. However this is really only down to its age and its availability. If the 2.8 was fitted to a far larger market and was as old as the GM 4 pot all ally Ecotec block then I'm sure we would already be seeing far larger figures out of the V6 and showing its full potential.

Your going on about a race car, what is your point ?

I've seen that car in the metal in Neo Brothers garage; it's road-legal car, and they used a stock 9-3 as the starting point. The main purpose of the car is to showcase the hardware that you can buy from Neo Brothers and fit to your own 9-3 (or Vauxhall), including items such as the multi-piston brake calipers. Hence, it's a very valid thread if you have a Z20NET. If someone had posted up a video of a BMW sliding around in the snow (or a mouse trapped in a glovebox, or a woman jet washing the inside of her car), no one would be asking "what's the point of the thread".

I can see the point of a thread entitled... "Guys, look at what can be done with a 2.0 Turbo engine"

Then we can all look and go... "Wow... thats amazing"

Then go buy race helmets and strip out our Vectra's and have a Club Sport section.

Mind you, that does sound cool :)

I know the Vectra VXR is 'fat' already, its plain to see when driving on a race circuit, too much weight up front with a V6. But mine isnt a race car, so I dont care about that as its more of a Grand Tourer for long hauls but with some track components for fun days.

If you could hear my engine round the Nurburgring it didnt break a sweat, no need for high revving, it just blasted round with all the torque :D

Quite right to link this Nige - its shows the potential of both the 2.0T and maptun. I think the VXR boys are just getting their knickers in a twist cause its more powerful than them:lol:

Hopefully you will get your boost issues sorted and reach your target mate:D. Quite why people dis someone pushing the current boundaries of the VX tuning market for this engine is beyond me....maybe the green eyed monster has got hold of them!;)

Maptun do VX stuff they do not, this is a VX site so...

I'm more than aware that there are companies out their who tune these engines to explosion point, but they do not cater to VX(mostly) so no real point in talking about them, if i had a SAAB, then that would be a different story:cool::D

I spoke to them a while back and they were not interested in the vectra/signum at all, i reckon i have spoken to every tuner in the UK about the Z20NET..

I hope he reaches his target too, I like what his doing and wish I could do the same as him, but why has a mod edited his title and post tells you something ;) if it was the other way round, there would be an uproar :target:

And give me the same amount of money spent on that 'race car' to tune a 2.8v6 T then let's have a proper debate  that includes going to race tracks etc

Without trying to sound funny. There is a fair few vxr and 2.8t owners on here and not once have i read a thread from one of us saying our car is better than everyone elses, none of us come on and slate people with LS's or SRI's. Yet more frequently we are seeing childish threads and posts slating vxr and 2.8t's, my car is faster than yours blah blah blah and all the rest of it. Its all good banter but it seems a lot of it is grown from jealousy.

My car's faster than any other car here.

Fact.

I could drive it in reverse and still beat you pansies even if you were in 6th gear.

Hell, I could take off all the wheels on mine, including the steering wheel, and still beat you all.

I wouldn't worry about it mate, i was taking the pish - nothing else:wasted:I treat everyone the same, regardless what they drive because its either a vectra or bigbum at the end of the day.

What i cannot understand is the negativity surrounding people who push the boundaries of tuning - it seems to be the way on here and it always has been. Nutron got a roasting in the early days and everyone thought he was full of pish, Spoons got it tight with his old CDTi and there are plenty more too..

On a side note how do your VXR quarter mile times compare to your VXRd?

On a side note how do your VXR quarter mile times compare to your VXRd?

My best time in the Vectra VXR was 14.38 seconds and 101 mph

That time was with a Stage 1 remap 305 BHP and 389 Lb/ft

My best time in the Vectra VXRD was 15.55 seconds and 90 mph

That time was with all sorts done to it with 185 BHP and 325 Lb/ft :D

http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33382&highlight=santa+spoons&page=3

So I needed another extra 120 BHP to gain 1 second in the VXR

Shows how important the Torque is

Yeah, but it also shows just how much more power I'm going to need to get a sub 14 second 1/4 mile time in the VXR.

:fear: I dont think I'm going to do it somehow which will be a shame :(

I know my mate with his BMW 335D remapped to 350 BHP and 550 Lb/ft did the 1/4 mile in 13.2 seconds but thats with two turbo's each managing the power, super fast auto gearbox and rear wheel drive... so the perfect setup for fast standing starts basically

My Stage III will get around 325 - 340 BHP and 430 Lb/ft maximum. But I'm also expecting around 40-60 BHP increases at various stages in the rev range.

So I might just scrape a 13.9999999 second 1/4 mile time if I'm very lucky... or it'll just be outside at 14.00001 :loco:

We shall wait and see

418bhp not bad for 2.0T, but then again cossies were doing this 1/4 century ago quite easily. When put like that, makes me wonder how far have turbocharged engines for road cars progressed by 2011
