Annoying Whistle

As well as the nice Turbo whistle from my 1.9 CDTI I also get an annoying constant high pitched noise from the moment I start the car. It tends to get a bit quieter when its warmed up and I thought it might be the power steeing as the noise drops when I turn the steering wheel.

I was hoping to check the steering fluid but can't see where it is topped up like I could on my Vec B SRi.

Anyone know if I can check it myself or is this a dealer job ?

Power steering reservoir os on the top of the rack, down underneath the deisel filter..

yes, you can check it yourself, but as it's an electro-hydraulic system i doubt it would whistle..

have you had the serpentine drive belt and it's tensioner checked..Not got any induction leaks have you?? Air whistling from a turbo hose?

I'll get the belt checked first as the sound pitch drops when the wheel is turned even when the car is static. I'd better get it booked in with the local dealer as I'm pretty useless with anything under the bonnet !
