View Full Version : Bass Rattle

Since installing my new Sub in the boot I have noticed a rattle when the Bass is quite strong. Finally today I have tracked down it's source.
The rattle only happens when the boot lid is closed. From what I can hear the rattle is the locking mechanism of the boot. When the boot is opened the rattle disappears.
Is there anyway I can solve this (other than turnig the bass down a bit) or is it something I have to put up with.
Cheers

Welcome to the Bassss world mate....its very difficult to cancel all the shaking in the many probable sources......the problem is that it will get worst every time.....all the shaking will loosen things up gradualy.....at least thatīs what happend in my last car.
What I used to do was adding little pieces of rubber between shaking stuff...now for you specific problem in the locking mecanism of the boot it would be difficult to solve it...may be by making the "u" shape rod thiker some how to make the mecanism tighter.

Have you tried to adjust the latch in the boot, rather than the tailgate, it might stop the rattle.

I am starting to find that, have had to move things out of the little cubby holes in the boot because they rattle !!!!!
How do you adjust the latch ??
It certainly sounds like the problem when I have my ear to it

Is it the parcel shelf rattling against the hatch? There is a small piece of plastic in the middle of the shelf which you might need to remove. Stopped it on mine. :D

Okay it wasn't any plastic clips rattling against the hatch.
Still sounds like the boot latch, so how do I go about adjusting it

torx insert screws around the boot catch on the rear panel, not the bootlid.
slaken them off a little and gently tap the latch lower down. Retighten the bolts.
It should hold it further down into the seal..
As others have said, check all the rubber buffers are in place around the boot and the parcel shelf ;)

I have a similar problem and its def the boot lid rather than anything in the boot lid rattling :(
I saw the 2 torx screws on the latch and thought about loosening and trying to tap it down but there doesnt look like any adjustment at all on the holes? (unless i elongate them with a file)
Hopefully have time to play with a big hammer at the weekend

(unless i elongate them with a file)You mean the bar bit that the tailgate lock locks onto? If so, you just need to loosen those two Torx screws and then the whole catch will move to let you adjust it. You might need to remove a bit of plastic trim first - can't recall what the Vec boot catch bit looks like.

Rember mates that also licence plates also rattle like hell some times......check them...may that will help some.....I always put some kind of rubber in between the licence and the bumpers.... And yes...Dynamat works really well...but itīs a pain in the neck to fiil the car with it...not difucult but a long job.
