when should it be changed and how do you reset service ligt on 04 vecta 1.9 dti

timing belt is 80-100,000 miles according to VX's book..

i strongly advise doing it closer to 60,000 miles to prevent breakages..

to rest the service light..

sit in the drivers seat,
foot on the brake pedal, left hand on the trip reset in the clockset.. hold both down..

right hand, turn key till ignition lights come on.. still hold both down..

the display in the tacho will change and reset to a higher number..foot and hand off and turn off ignition.. all done..

Mine got done at 54k.


That was after the water pump siezed and the belt slipped a couple of teeth, damaged a few teeth as well as mangling the idler gear. aparently one more tooth and it would have been new engine time. so if you hear a squeaking 'loose fan belt' type sound be suspicious of the water pump
