    You left out 2.8V6 Turbo

I can only really comment on my own and what I've seen on here TBH.

The 1.8,2.2 ND+D, 2.0T and probably the V6's are farely reliable, but the rest of the diesels have more problems IMHO. These issues are all well known now and can be pinned down to what it is pretty quickly. The DTi's aren't as bad as the CDTi's I think, but every car is different I know of 2.0T's that were never out of the garage as well as CDTi's.

Point is every car is different and some are just lemons all the time with problemn after problem

I've had two 1.9CDTI 150s with no real snags, a few minor things on each car that were sorted with a few hours work. I'm only counting engine faults though not things like hand brakes!

From my heavy tuning of the 1.9CDTI I've found it to be almost bomb proof, even things that I though might have ended her life she's just shrugged off. The EGR valve I would have to say I haven't seen in about 90K of driving this engine but it is an outrage and a clear design flaw. I also haven't experianced DPF problems because I don't have one but the twin turbo Insignia I'm sure will have one, so I'll be looking to remove that ASAP when I get an Insignia (where there is a will there is a way).

I think the 1.9CDTI comes up with more faults across the fleet but then I don't see much other than 1.9CDTIs on the roads, I haven't seen an 07 onwards with anything but a 1.9CDTI so it's not surprising that there are more 1.9CDTIs with faults if there are more on the road.

    Edit:

Looking at this thread (Poll), 30% of the cars have 1.9CDTIs in them and you can't vote twice so those that bought a second 1.9 (me) or changed to, can't add those.

2.0 turbo. You just don't hear of things going wrong on these cars.

In an automatic pound for pound ppl are better off getting a 2.2 direct than a CDTi, no derv pump or turbo to worry about, loss of about 4 mpg between the two, not worth the extra to buy and less to go expensively wrong.

The 2.2 direct still has a few fuel pump problems. Anyway, I'd say 1.8 petrol/2.0T and the V6 CDTi for the diesels.

Overall, it looks like the petrols are a better bet than the diesels.
