    Default Astra

The wife and I were watching TV last night (IAACGMOOH) when an ad for the Astra and Astra estate came on. My wife commented that with the new 10 year warranty that she would like to look at the Astra as a potential replacement for her Getz. I expressed some surprise as she had shown no interest in anything Vx all before. She said she generally has looked on Vx as being the definition of boring, but that she has warmed to the Vectra, and now that the Vxs have a decent warranty, and we have twice the number of children we had when she bought the Getz, that she would be interested in the Astra.

Astras arent bad, i sold mine as wasnt big enough for my needs, and the 1.6 petrol was horrendously bad on fuel.
made me laugh but she deemed vx boring, but drives a getz, which i can only describe as boring plasticcy cheap rubbish, from personal experience of having one of them too

The Getz is plasticy, but I have to say it has been bullet proof in terms of reliability. You have to remember we are talking about a woman, and sorry if I offend the rare female on this forum, but logic and woman do not go together. To her the Hyundai is just a good value run around with a great warranty, while she judges Vx as being a well know make with the reputation of selling boring rep mobiles........I took some stick for buying the Vectra. To her it does not matter that it has 150bhp, nice 17 inch alloys etc, all she sees is the badge.

I have not driven a current generation Astra, but have driven all the previous incarnations (Mk1 - 4) and always liked them. Preferred the Escort but the Astra has always had the edge over the Focus.

No I am not a Ford man, I will buy drive a car of any make if I like it, or think it is a good deal (hence I am not a make Fanboy, either Ford or Vauxhall). If you actually read what I posted I have always preferred the Astra to the Focus. In the dim and distant past when it was the Escort v the Mk1-3 Astra, I preferred the Escort. Never have liked the Focus or understood why the press prefer it over every other car in that sector.
