    confused Sat Nav Problems

Hi everyone I think I have read all the threads I have the dreaded crossed out GPS . When i'm driving ,the system thinks I am about 40 odd miles from where I actually am, it calculates & even tells me I am going the wrong way . So, I have checked the aerial & connections including into the back of the Cd70 no improvement, then I bought the dash mounted aerial with the female Fakra connection still no good . Can anyone tell me the next step please as this is soooo frustrating .Maybe someone has already answered this one in a previous thread (sorry for missing it) can anybody point me in the right direction (get it) He He

Have you tried getting a fix for the satnav whilst stationary?

Might sound a daft question, but sometimes with my CD70, if i get in and drive off straight away, the GPS takes an age to fix, then then as you have experienced it is miles out.

If i then stop, stop the navigation then re plan a route, it will fix and works a treat.

Its a quirk that i have had with TomTom in the past too, seems like the GPS is trying to fix, and because you are moving, it throws a wobbly.

Also, if you have bought an external GPS antenna, have you tried going somewhere with a clear view of the sky and putting the GPS antenna on the roof of your car to see if you can get a solid fix?

    HI Aidi,
Thanks for the quick response!! I have tried both the original and afterfit aerials (on roof) but maybe I should wait a bit longer to get a fix' I will try again tomorrow if its not snowing!! GRRRRR

Have you checked your socket on the CD70...
On mine, there is a fine copper pin, which has snapped off.
This caused the same issue as you are having now.

In the end, I shoved some stranded copper wire in the hole in the end of the fakra plug, which then contacted the snapped pin stub when plugged in... Sat Nav reception is now perfect.

Well guys , I have checked the connection at the back of the unit & it is ok (I can see the actual spike sticking out ) , I have also positioned the car in a clear space & let it look around so to speak & still no improvement.

Any further ideas will be a help as I am at a loss

Not too sure where you can go from here if you have checked the connections, and tried the built in and an aftermarket GPS antenna.

Do all other functions on the CD70 work correctly?

    HI Aidi,
Yes the CD70 works ok. It just seems to think home is near Lincoln !! it tells me information as to where it thinks it is. If I key in my home address it will calculate & give me the route home to swadlincote Oops

I'm out of ideas to get it working. Seems like it could be more than just a connection fault.

I expect Robsey will be along soon and might have a few other suggestions to make.
