Just noticed this afternoon that the tax disc on my car ran out yesterday. When I was going through the process of buying the car the salesperson told me I had to get my insurance company to forward them a cover note so they could tax the car. I thought to myself "That's good, they're gonna stick some tax on it for me. How nice of them!".
Anyway, I'm at work this afternoon and look out of the window at the car (as you do!) and notice that the tax disc is red i.e. an '05 one. A 30-09-05 one.
I then ring the dealer and say "You told me you needed the cover note sent to you in order to tax the car and you never did it."
Salesperson "I never said that."
Me "You did say exactly that and, in saying you didn't, you're effectively calling me, the customer, who has just given you 12 grand, a liar."
Them "If you look at the sales contract you signed, it doesn't say anything about us taxing the car. You have to ask us to do it and we charge you for it."
Me "Yes, I realise the contract I signed is legal and binding, but you did verbally tell me you were going to tax the car."
Them "No, I didn't!"
This goes on for about 20 minutes and the sales manager then comes on the phone and says I have no proof of this being said and it's basically tough sh**, buy your own tax disc!
I'm absolutely bubbling at the way I was spoken to by this complete to**pot of a manager, who has basically accused me of lying. I'm also mad at myself for going there to buy a car, for being so gullible to believe they were going to give me something for nothing and for not noticing they were selling me a car with only 10 days of VED left on it!
I work 12 hour shifts and am not off work until Wednesday, which will be when I can get down the P.O. to get a new one.
Looks like I'm cycling to work for the next 3 days!
